Creating and supporting work
opportunities for individuals
with mental illness

Our Mission:
Chrysalis provides individualized vocational
and work-related services to persons in
our community who have mental illnesses.

Agency History
Chrysalis, Inc. has been serving the Madison community for over a quarter century. Chrysalis, Inc. was founded in 1980 as a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The founders wanted to avoid following a trend at the time, which was to provide mental health support in sheltered workshops. These founders believed that real-life experiences were more powerful and lasting than those consisting of isolated and confined interactions. Therefore, the Chrysalis Supported Employment Program emerged and, to this day, Chrysalis focuses on providing community-based vocational support services.

Chrysalis
Chrysalis is governed by a board of directors, has 4.5FTE staff positions, and an operating budget of $205,000. Chrysalis provides vocational support services to approximately 75 Dane County residents who have mental illnesses. Chrysalis is primarily funded by a Dane County purchase of service agreement and also receives funding from Community Shares of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, non-profit agencies for whom we provide services, and community donors.
88% of all funds go directly to program-related costs.
